Murakka Akkase Ebru
$650.00 USD
Item description: A traditional Ottoman-style calligraphic composition in the akkase technique, framed by original battal (stone pattern) ebru and gilded borders, mounted as a murakka. Made with acid-free paper and natural earth pigments.
Inscription: "Rütbetü'l-ilmi a'le'r-rüteb" (رتبة العلم أعلى الرتب), meaning "The highest of ranks is the rank of knowledge," in the composition of hattat İsmail Hakkı Altunbezer (1873–1946).
Ebru artist: Fatıma Nazan Güç (Mizan Marbling), maker of the ebru, borders, and murakka.
Process: The paper was laid on the marbling tray four times: (1) battal ebru, (2) akkase ebru, (3) background ebru, and (4) wavy ebru for the borders. Then (5) the murakka was assembled with a handmade starch and alum adhesive, and (6) the ruled borders (cedvel) were hand-drawn by Fatıma Nazan Güç.
